Checklist A: Before You Start

  • Review official K-1 overview and requirements (USCIS + Department of State links above)
  • Confirm you have a realistic timeline and can gather documents promptly
  • Identify prior marriages, name changes, and any special circumstances early
  • Start a case folder system (digital and/or paper) for everything you submit and receive
  • Decide whether translations will be needed and for which documents

Checklist B: I-129F Packet Organization (Common Items)

  • Completed petition form (I-129F) using the current edition
  • Filing fee prepared using the current USCIS fee guidance
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship for the petitioner (copy)
  • Passport-style photos (as required by instructions)
  • Statements of intent to marry (as applicable to your case/instructions)
